Aside from the high-level political talks and negotiations, several initiatives by Syrian activists have been taken to address the migration and refugee crisis, support Syrian civil society and protect humans and nonmilitary targets while calling for humanitarian access. Even during the fighting, people in Damascus would go out in the evenings to eat, drink and dance, but this summer, the bars and restaurants of the Old City were much busier.
