In 2011 a bullet passed completely through his skull during an assassination attempt, but he survived. The attempt, apparently ordered by gangsters from his home town, followed an attempt on his life in 1998 and a 1990 shooting in which he took a bullet to the leg. From then on, the hit albums came one after another, such as the 1983 album , the 1985 album, and the 1987 album Allah Allah. He has recorded a total of 42 albums from 1970 to 2014.
