Iman Afshari, head of branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court, issued the death sentence for Mahan Sadrati on the charge of a ruling that the Supreme Court overturned. This judge has previously issued heavy sentences for Mahosh Thabit and Fariba Kamalabadi, both Baha’i activists; Reza Shahabi and Hassan Saeedi, both labor activists; and Rasul Badaghi, Jafar Ebrahimi, and Mohammad Habibi, all activists with the Teachers Union Council. The filmmaker Mohammad Rasulof said about this judge: “I asked the respected judge, have you seen my films?” He said no. I said, “How do you want to judge?” He said that the analysis of my films by the security agencies was enough for him. He also sentenced Sepideh Reshnou, a writer and editor whose video of a fight with a veiled woman on a bus became popular on social networks, on the charge of propagandizing against the Islamic Republic and encouraging people to commit corruption and prostitution.
