Chaharshanbe Suri Celebration in the capital

The name of the festival consists, the name of Wednesday in the calendars, and suri , most plausibly meaning “red” and referring either to fire or to ruddiness. Local varieties of the name of the festival include Azerbaijani , Kurdish Kola and Koli (in Kurdistan), and Isfahani  (in Isfahan). To the Yezidi Kurds, it is known as Sor.
