  After the 1917 revolution, the factory that created the scent was nationalised and the perfume renamed to erase all associations with the monarchy. It is rumoured that August Michel, the man who devised the recipe, fled Russia after the revolution and was later part of the team that created Chanel No. 5, thus explaining the striking resemblance between the two perfumes.
