The property developer and art collector Nasser David Khalili, was rumoured to have spent £40 million renovating the 55,000 sq ft home, formed from what had been the Egyptian Embassy and part of the Russian Embassy. Marble, it was said, had been shipped in from the quarry in India from which the stone for the Taj Mahal had come.
